Sensiclear

Sensiclear

Does Sensiclear Work?

At $80 for 2 months it better work. The before and after pics are pretty convincing, but keep in mind that just about every acne product has these. The pictures typically represent a very few isolated incidences or are even doctored through photo editing software. We need to rely on the ingredient profile and customer reviews in order to determine Sensiclear’s efficacy.

After a few minutes of searching for the ingredient list on Sensiclear.com, I finally found it. It’s definitely a bad thing when you can’t pronounce 95% of the ingredients. Sensiclear is full of harsh chemicals, such as sodium benzotriazolyl butylphenol sulfonate and ppg-5-ceteth-20. Manufactured chemicals such as these may lead to irritation of the skin and ultimately do more harm than good.

Sensiclear Customer Reviews

The average rating on Amazon is 3.0/5.0. That’s 60% or a D-. That’s horrible news for Sensiclear.  One consumer stated that her breakouts and blackheads got even worse! We  have received mostly negative reviews about this product.

Sensiclear’s “Free” Trial

The trial is not free. I do like that Sensiclear is upfront about this fact. It clearly states that you will be charged $7.95 for S&H. Once they have your credit card information and the 30 day trial ends, you get “your first full size kit for $19.95 plus $4.50 shipping and handling each month, and future shipments will be sent every 60 days.” You can always cancel, but that is usually VERY difficult. For example, I just called their CS department and at 11am PST on a Thursday and I was on the phone FOREVER and didn’t talk to a single person. That makes me very skeptical of Sensiclear and the “free” trial.

Pros

-    No Benzoyl Peroxide

Cons

-    Harsh chemicals
-    The not-so-free trial
-    Negative consumer reviews

Conclusion

We do not recommend Sensiclear.  It’s too much money and too big of a hassle to get off the autoship program (if you can get off of it).

Lexli Acne Kit

lexli-acne-kit.jpg Lexli Acne Kit

The Lexli Acne Kit actually a pretty good acne treatment at a pretty hefty price–$89!

Let’s take a look at what you get:

  • Acne Cleanser
  • Acne Moisturizer with Sunblock
  • Acne Clarifying Lotion
  • Acne Renewing Exfoliant

For some reason the size of each jar is not found on the website. Furthermore, we have no idea how long this kit will last. These omissions make me a little skeptical. From the look of the jars, I estimate that each kit will last one month. That’s $89 a month!

The Lexli kit does contain some great ingredients: aloe, tea tree oil, licorice extract, white willow extract, and green tea.  These are all very effective acne fighters that WILL help clear your acne.

On the downside, it does contain benzoyl peroxid and glycolic acid. Do not try this kit if you are the least bit sensitive to these ingredients.

If Lexli Acne Kit really eliminates your acne it’s worth the $89 though, right? Not necessarily.

There are plenty of acne treatments and kits out there that are less expensive, last longer and are even more effective.

DDF Pumice Acne Scrub

ddf-pumice-acne-scrub.jpgDDF Pumice Acne Scrub

DDF Pumice Acne Scrub is another run of the mill acne treatment. It’s basically a soap with benzoyl peroxide–nothing else. Benzoyl peroxide is cheap cheap chemical commonly found in acne treatments. Many users complain of redness, itchiness and flakiness of skin. It does work, but at a huge price to the user.

For $32, DDF Pumice Acne Scrub is expensive, especially after considering that you need a cleanser, toner and lotion. This kit ends up costing about $124.00. That will last you about 2 months. That’s a lot of  money.

Conclusion

This is a below average product in a fancy bottle. If the price was $5-7, I would maybe recommend it. It will help with your acne a little bit, but considering the side effects of benzoyl peroxide and the high price, I would definitely pass on this one.

Philosophy Acne Kit

philosophy.jpg

Philosophy Acne Kit

Philosophy has a great makeup line, but what about their acne kits?

Philosophy should probably stick to makeup. Their 4-step acne kit has received slightly below average ratings from consumers—as an acne treatment. The price is another story. For $50 you get 3.3 oz of face wash, 1 oz of serum, 1 oz of cream, and 1 oz of a protection cream. This can easily be used in a month. For that price, an ace treatment should last 3-4 months.

It’s difficult to review the efficacy of the Philosophy Acne Kit, as there is little information about its ingredients—a red flag. I am relying solely on ResearchAcneTreatments.com visitors for input.

Conclusion

I would not take the $50 gamble. Philosophy does not even offer a guarantee. Where’s the confidence?

skiniD

skinid.jpg skiniD

Can Neutrogena’s new skiniDTM compete with the acne all stars Proactiv and Acjuva?

The entire skiniD website is dedicated to proving its superiority over ProActiv. According to a placebo controlled, double blind study conducted by Neutrogena, skiniD helps cure acne 2x faster than Proactiv. That’s like comparing a Geo Metro (Proactiv) to a Honda Civic (skiniD). Both are decent cars, one better than the other, but they are still not the best. In my eyes, the study doesn’t mean much.

The concept of personalization sounds good, but from what I’ve heard, the treatments do not vary much. It’s essentially a marketing ploy.

There are two problems that I have with skiniD:

1) No ingredient list is available. It’s impossible to give a thorough review of skiniD with out a list of ingredients. I’m not sure what they are hiding from us. Either they want to keep their formula a secret or it’s just another run of the mill acne treatment, using ordinary ingredients.

2) Autoship program. Most autoship programs are deceitful and hard to cancel. I appreciate that Neutrogena clearly states that your credit card will be billed. This is a very reputable company and they probably follow good business practices. However, it’s still VERY annoying to call in and cancel. Not only that, but to get refunded it take 1-2 billing cycles (2-4 months). If you’re on a tight budget, that’s a major problem.

Conclusion

SkiniD is not a bad acne treatment by any means. If you use it, you’ll probably see good results. But the truth is there are A LOT better products out there.

Proactive Solution

proactiv2.jpgProactiv Solution

Proactiv (Proactive Solution) is one of the most well known and popular acne treatments available. With celebrity endorsements like P.Diddy, Alyssa Milano and Jessica Simpson, Proactiv has become the acne treatment of choice for many youth.

Proactiv is a 3-step system, similar to Acjuva reviewed here. Proactive’s 3 steps are:

Step 1: Renewing Cleanser

  •  A unique, oil-free formula
  • Smooth tiny beads exfoliate dead skin cells and other impurities
  • Prescription grade benzoyl peroxide.

Step 2: Revitalizing Toner

  • Removes dead skin cells
  • Removes excess oil
  • Soothes the skin

Step 3: Repairing Lotion

  • Heals blemishes and prevents new ones

Eventhough there is no real cure for acne, there are ways to treat acne safely and effectively. To prevent acne you must have an acne treatment that attacks acne at its source - your pores.

Proactiv was developed by the Stanford trained doctors Dr. Rodan M.D. and Dr.Fields M.D., whose personal struggles with acne led to the design and development of this product.

Proactiv is an affordable acne treatment that may work for you as it has worked for many other people.

What is Proactiv’s Success Rate?

Proactiv is one of the more popular acne treatments on the market and with a 76% success rate, it is hard not to see why. Is 76% good? Sure. What about the other 24%? Those 24% usually have some sort of reaction, be it allergic or skin irritation. Out of the 76% of acne sufferers who have success with Proactiv’s Solution, only about 50% of them reorder due to its cost.

Proactiv Conclusion

ResearchAcneTreatments rates Proactiv 6th out of 295 Acne Products.  Compared to Proactiv Solution, Acjuva is ranked higher because it is a better value. Acjuva and Proactiv® are both $39.95. The price is the same, but Acjuva is DOUBLE the size of Proactiv®. That means you’re getting 4 months of acne treatments rather than 2. That’s only $10 a month.  Acjuva is also guaranteed to work in 14 days or its free.

Our top-rated acne treatment, Acnetix is 100% benzoyl peroxide free and has a 97% success rate.

Proactiv doesn’t entirely fail to deliver, and proves to work well for those with VERY oily skin. If you are interested in learning more about Proactive, be sure to visit their official site here.
