Causes of Acne
From head to foot we are covered in skin and hair. A hair follicle is a part of the skin that grows hair by packing old cells together. Acne is caused by blockages in the follicles of the skin. These blockages naturally collect bacteria and consequently adverse effects result either in inflammation (papules, infected pustules, or nodules) or red splotches.
Though every cause of acne is still unknown, extensive research has been conducted and a definitive finger can be pointed at a number of causes:
- Itcomes with the family - Known partly to be hereditary, if one of your elder siblings has experienced acne, the chances of you experiencing the same are high.
- Side Effects of Puberty - As hormonal levels change, especially during menstrual cycles and puberty, natural changes in the body occur which welcome the formation of acne. Specifically, the glands on the skin enlarge and produce more sebum.
- High levels of Stress - When a person experiences stress, there is an increase in the output of the adrenal glands. The excess output, especially during the changing body of adolescent years can form acne.
- Dead skin cells - Accumulation of dead skin cells within the follicles causes acne to form.
- Bacteria - As a foreign agent to the composite of the skin, the accumulation of bacteria within the pores causes acne.
- Scratching - Any type of scratching or excessive itching of the skin can lead to inflammation which aids in the cause of acne and harboring of foreign elements.
- Some types of Medications - Specifically medications which contain halogens, lithium, barbiturates, or androgens - all of which are agents in the cause of acne. (Medications also include the use of anabolic steroids).
- Chemicals - Specifically chemical compounds such as dioxin. Iodine (as highly contained in Seafood) has also been known to worsen current conditions of acne.
Don’t lose hope! - As research continues to find further causes of Acne, so does the research in finding a cure for acne. There are many products which aid in ridding the skin and its follicles of the bacteria and dead skin cells which accumulate. Keep reading to find out more…
