Retin A
The main component in Retin A is Tretinoin. Tretinoin is basically vitamin A in acid form, and is commonly used in the treatment of acne.
Common brands: Retin-A, Retin A Micro, Tretinoin Gel, Renova, Retiva
Retin A is particularly used for the treatment of whiteheads and blackheads. It treats the whiteheads and blackheads by augmenting the production of skin cells. As new skin cells are produced, the older cells (contaminated with bacteria) are replaced. Retin A is also used to hinder new comedones (blackheads) from forming.
PROS:
- Works on acne AND blackheads
- Very strong (guaranteed to have some positive effects)
CONS:
- Flaky skin
- Extreme risk of sunburn
- Thinning of the skin
- Itchy and irritated skin
- Available by prescription only
Unfortunately, as with any drastic change in body composition, the use of Retin-A carries very negative side effects.
If you wish to avoid the negative side effects of Retin A, Research Acne Treatments users and experts recommend Acnetix as a Retin-A alternative (keep reading below for all of the top acne treatments).
