Zeno

Zeno is a machine.  It is a small hand-held medical device which is used for the treatment and removal of acne.  The way it works is by concentrating heat (approximately 120 degrees) directly on the affected area of the skin.  While in place for 2.5 minutes, the heat works to kill the nested bacteria which are causing the acne.  Zeno can be used up to three times a day on any given affected area.  You will definitely feel the heat, but it is said to be tolerable.

The most noticeable side effect is a red mark which usually lasts around 20 minutes, depending on the type of skin you have.

Initial Investment - The initial cost for this portable handheld medical device is about $235.00 retail.  This includes a small microchip which controls the heat.  The microchip works for more or less 90 uses.

Additional costs-Once the 90-use micro-chip has been expended, additional cartridges can be purchased for around $35.00.  Falling under the category of personal/beauty care, Zeno is not covered by insurance.

Not sold over-the-counter - For the treatment pimples, Zeno is FDA approved.  Since Zeno is currently involved with on-going trials with the FDA to see if Zeno is effective in other types of treatments, it is only sold at physician’s offices.  The trials are expected to last about another year, after which there is a possibility Zeno will be sold in stores.

Is Zeno for you? If you are one with enough money to use a physician prescribed medical device without the aid of insurance, plus the additional refill cartridges costs - Zeno may be for you.  Acne is caused by the accumulation of bacteria, and if a device such as Zeno can rid your pores and follicles of said bacteria, it may be worth it.

Otherwise, try more traditional treatments.  With scientific research and breakthroughs constantly occurring, be sure to check out what other options are available.  These options will most likely come in the form of creams or pills.
